SCM house: Women students hostel project
There are many women members of SCM in the many districts of Bangladesh who are interested to go to Dhaka to pursue their higher studies but do not have any shelter or a safe and secured place to live hence the parents of those students are afraid of sending their daughters to live alone in the capital. As a result those women lose the chance of pursuing their higher studies in the reputed colleges and universities though they have the capability and ability. Steps have been taken from Bangladesh SCM to support those women members with accommodation and other logistics—a house has been hired to accommodate 6 women for the first time. From the month of July the “SCM House” has been started with 5 SCM women members, and the plan for the following year is to develop the SCM House and provide support to more women members from various parts of the country.
Women’s Conference
The women’s sub-committee arranged a one-day women’s conference on 11 February at the RRC Training and Resource Centre in Jessore.15 women delegates participated in the conference and the delegates developed a new women’s sub-committee with Ms. Monica Biswas as the new women’s coordinator. Monica was also Bangladesh SCM official delegate to WSCF AP’s Women Doing Theology Workshop in the Philippines held in March 2003.
